V Australia plan new Melbourne US link

V Australia, the long haul division of Virgin Blue has revealed that it will introduce new scheduled service to Los Angeles. The new flights will originate from Melbourne Australia. The carrier will introduce the new routes in the Northern 2010 Summer season and will be operated by B777 long range aircraft on a 3x weekly basis. The new route will compliment existing services operated by V Australia to Sydney and Brisbane.

The new service will go head to head on the route with Qantas which currently operates a daily service between the city pairs. 5x weekly Qantas operates a B747-400 and on the remaining two days the carrier operates Airbus A380 aircraft.
