Star Alliance carrier adds Macedonian links
Swiss International Airlines will launch new non stop scheduled service from its Zurich base. From March 28th Swiss will serve the Macedonian capital Skopje on a twice weekly rotation with A320 equipment. The same day, the carrier will also launch a weekly service to the leisure market of Ohrid.
The Macedonian market has been hit by the failure of its national carrier MAT and Skopje is keen to backfill the capacity that has been lost since its demise.
IATA BSP data (Airport IS) shows that MAT carried over 53,000 passengers between Zurich and Skopje with wet lease specialist Helvetic also operating some services on this sector.
Swiss services will be operated by subsidiary Edelweiss Air.
