Ryanair will add Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ) to its network for the 2024 northern hemisphere summer schedule, with five routes planned from the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Irish carrier’s new service from SJJ will kick off in April 2024, when the airline will open 6X-weekly service between SJJ and London Stansted Airport. That month, Ryanair will also start four routes to be operated 4X-weekly from SJJ.

Those routes include flights to: Brussels Charleroi; Gothenburg, Sweden; Memmingen, Germany; and Milan Bergamo.

Ryanair CCO Jason McGuinness says in a statement that the airline “worked closely” with SJJ and Sarajevo government and tourism authorities on plans to launch the routes, which will be operated with government financial support.

McGuinness says Ryanair will “continue to work together” with local authorities “to deliver further inbound tourism, connectivity and low fares to Bosnia and Herzegovina and its citizens/visitors.”

He adds: “We believe that Bosnia and Herzegovina will be a key growth market for Ryanair’s low fares.”

Alan Bajić, SJJ managing director, says Ryanair’s plans to open routes from the airport shows “concrete results” from efforts by the airport and local government to attract new air service and connectivity.

SJJ and Sarajevo government authorities are “focused on stimulating the launch of strategic routes, with the aim of increasing the number of tourists,” Bajić says.
