Ryanair to cut capacity from Dublin

Ryanair announced it will shed capacity at its Dublin base, citing rising costs (the Government's €10 travel tax) as a major factor in its decision.

From the end of March, Ryanair will cut roughly 20% of existing routes, and remove three aircraft from the base.

However the LCC also plans to add capacity to sunshine destinations during the summer, with extra flights from Dublin to Alicante, the Canary Islands, Faro and Malaga.

Bmi just announced that it will reduce its Heathrow - Dublin service from seven-times-daily to four at the start of the summer schedule (at the end of March).

Traffic at Dublin Airport fell from 23.5 million in 2008 to 20 million in 2009.
