ROUTES EUROPE: Tallinn to Host Routes Europe 2012

At lunchtime today Tallinn Airport in Estonia will be confirmed as the host for the 7th Routes Europe event in 2012. Tallinn in Estonia’s capital and largest city and is a mix of old and new. Its old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while the it is also ranked among the top 10 digital cities in the world. This year it also shares the title of European Capital of Culture with Turku in Finland.

Since gaining independence from the Soviet Union, Tallinn has become increasingly accessible for tourists thanks to improved air and sea transport links to Western Europe and the Estonia’s entry into the European Union. The country has made rapid economic progress and its tourism industry is booming, particularly for weekend breaks. The main attractions are the two old towns, Lower Town and Toompea, both of which can be easily explored on foot.
