Rosy cargo forecasts from Boeing and Airbus

Boeing has forecast air cargo traffic will more than triple over the next 20 years, while Airbus expects the world's freighter fleet to grow to 4,249 by 2026, about 2.5 times 2006 levels.

The US manufacturer said increasing long-term demand for all-cargo services will produce more passenger-to-cargo aircraft conversions and it predicted the Asia-Pacific region would see the highest growth.

Airbus said freighter traffic growth over the next 20 years will be driven by traffic between China and North America and Europe and added it would accomodate this growth through a combination of more dedicated cargo freighters, more large bodied aircraft, higher utilisation and higher load factors.
