Rolls–Royce to axe up to 2,000 jobs

Rolls–Royce plans to cut between 1,500 and 2,000 jobs during 2009 in response to the global recession.

"Rolls-Royce has been reviewing the possible impact of current economic uncertainties, delays on individual programmes, such as the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 787, and the benefits of the group's continuing focus on efficiency," it said in a statement.

Sir John Rose, chairman of Rolls Royce, said it was too early to determine the precise effects of the global economic downturn but said the group was anticipating cancelled orders.
