In 2015 the 1st Routes Middle East & Africa will take place from 31st May to 2nd June in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. Designed to build on the success of the regional Routes Africa 2014 event Routes Middle East & Africa will bring together over 350 delegates from across Africa and the Middle East to meet and discuss route development opportunities across the region.
The event promises to deliver aviation thought leaders from across Africa and the Middle East to discuss industry issues and the future of aviation within these regions. The interactive conference presents delegates with the opportunity to join these talks and hear from some of the most senior aviation specialists from the Middle East and Africa.
Registrations for the event are already being received with confirmations received from carriers such as FastJet, Air Arabia, Etihad, Kenya Airways, South African Airways, Qatar Airways and Ethiopian Airlines. In addition many airports have also registered including Oman Airports Company, Fujairah International Airport and Julius Nyerere International Airport.
Bahrain, which is located in the Arabian Gulf, is an ideal destination for this event, which is hosted by Bahrain Airport Company, as it has a history of aviation that dates back to the early 1920's. Historically it has acted as a gateway between the East and West providing a natural transit destination for early trade routes and a strategic hub for the Northern Gulf. In addition to benefiting from a significant strategic location, The Kingdom of Bahrain is also rich in history and culture with some historical sites dating back more than 4,000 years.
Speaking at the time the event was announced in June 2014 Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah, Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Airport Company said: “It is with great anticipation that we welcome Routes Middle East & Africa 2015 to the Kingdom of Bahrain. We are delighted to be bringing this prestigious event to Bahrain where we can show our visitors, first-hand the warm, welcoming culture of our people and experience the efficient and friendly airport which makes this country proud. Securing this prestigious inaugural event is the result of the collective efforts of our partners and stakeholders and we are confident that this world-class forum will reiterate Bahrain’s role as an aviation hub in the region and highlight our deep-seeded aviation heritage.”
Bahrain Airport Company is currently in the design phase of a significant modernisation programme for Bahrain International Airport with construction due to commence in Q2 of 2015. Bahrain enjoys an open skies policy and offers unrestricted access to a catchment area of more than 5m that extends to the eastern province of Saudi Arabia.
