NWA becomes Delta subsidiary

The US Department of Justice has given the green light to the proposed merger of Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines.

"The proposed merger between Delta and Northwest is likely to produce substantial and credible efficiencies that will benefit US consumers and is not likely to substantially lessen competition," the agency said in a statement on Wednesday.

The $2.8 billion merger will create a combined airline, which will carry more traffic than any of its rivals.
