Malaysia offers new Airline incentives

National airports operator Malaysia Airports plans to unveil incentives on airline charges to attract more airlines.

"The incentives will make our airports competitive as well as attract more airlines to operate in the country," says Malaysia Airports CEO Bashir Ahmad in a report carried by national news agency Bernama.

The incentives may be unveiled before the end of the year, but no details were given about their nature.

In March, Malaysia's government unveiled a 50% reduction in airport landing charges to help airlines during the economic crisis. The discount is effective in the two years from 1 April.

In 2002, Malaysia Airport created an incentive program to boost traffic through Kuala Lumpur International Airport. It offers free landing and parking for the first three years for new carriers serving the airport or for existing carriers increasing services.
