Infrastructure Development

A major reconstruction of the runway intersection is due to be carried out in September 2010. As a result, the airport will be temporarily closed to air traffic over three successive weekends in September.

Consortium HOCHTIEF Polska and HOCHTIEF Construction have signed a contract with the Polish airport operator to construct a central pier and will also finish building the terminal's existing southern pier - part of its ongoing expansion.

The project is scheduled to start in March 2010 and should be finished in March 2011. On completion, there will be 27 loading bridges and 45 departure gateways.

Airline Approach

Since last October, Warsaw has been applying its expanded incentive scheme in order to support airlines with new routes, as well as incremental frequency increases.

Incentives are applied for new routes, additional aircraft and for generating additional passenger traffic (provided that the carrier has recorded an increase in the number of departing passengers in two successive corresponding schedule seasons). There is also a transfer passenger incentive (up to 50% of the passenger charge).

In an effort to boost traffic to/from the city, the airport is also undertaking marketing activities with its airlines. Airlines may engage in these joint marketing activities under two packages: Basic Package and Growth Package.

Information Requested from Airlines

    • Data about passenger traffic on potential destinations
    • Airline development plans, expansion of new markets, aircraft purchases, new bases etc.
    • What organisations in the region cooperate with airlines on new routes and growing passenger traffic.
