Gatwick bid: EasyJet and Virgin team up
EasyJet and Virgin Atlantic are teaming up to make a £2.5 billion bid for Gatwick Airport, according to the UK Times newspaper.
The two airlines are talking to financial backers about forming a consortium, with the carriers promising to base a large number of aircraft at Gatwick to ensure its future growth, the newspaper reported.
"We have always been interested in bringing together a consortium to buy the airport. We are talking to lots of different parties at present and those talks continue," a spokesman for Virgin Atlantic was quoted as saying.
BAA, the airports operator, put Gatwick up for sale in September.
