Emirates launch world’s first cross-polar flight
Emirates Airline has selected what it says is the greenest route possible for its new Dubai to San Francisco service which is to launch on December 15.
The route, which will also be the world’s first cross-polar flight, is estimated to save 2,000 gallons of fuel and 30,000 pounds of carbon emissions thanks to various environmental factors such as taking the most efficient path over Canadian and Russian airspace.
“After months of planning, Emirates’ Environment flight is a best-practice trial of how airlines, governments, manufacturers, technology providers and airports can work together to be as eco-efficient as possible,” said HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Group.
