Alitalia finally finds a buyer
The Italian government has agreed to sell bankrupt Alitalia to an Italian business consortium.
The Italian Cai Group will pay €1.05 billion for Alitalia and its debts, ending a two-year hunt for a buyer.
The move is also likely to herald a long awaited re–launch of the carrier, featuring fewer staff and routes and greater effeciencies.
"We are working to bring this complex and delicate operation to an end and the big interest that we have seen from all potential foreign partners shows we are on the right path," said Cai's chief executive Rocco Sabelli.
