Alitalia to codeshare with Swiss carrier

Regional Swiss carrier Baboo has announced a new wave of codesharing with Italian flag carrier AlItalia. Baboo is based at Geneva Airport and was recently brought into the AF-KLM group meaning that the latest codeshare with another Skyteam flag carrier is little surprise.

The codeshare agreements mean that Baboo will operate from its main base in Geneva to a number of Italian cities. The cities that are covered in the agreement are;

  • Florence
  • Naples
  • Rome FCO
  • Milan MXP
  • Venice

The agreement will allow Alitalia to operate from a number of its online destinations direct to Geneva rather than hubbing through Rome. Alitalia currently operates a 2x daily Rome FCO to Geneva.

Baboo operates 13x weekly Geneva - Florence, a 5x weekly Geneva -Naples and a 12x weekly Venice Geneva. Baboo is somewhat of a niche operator, generally operating routes with smaller aircraft such as Embraer-190 and Dash 4 aircraft, however it also will operate trunk routes, filling capacity in quieter times of the day.
