Air India appoints Ameco Beijing to do 737 heavy checks

One of China's largest maintenance, repair and overhaul firms - Ameco Beijing - has secured a contract from Air India to do heavy maintenance checks on more of its Boeing 737-800s.

Ameco Beijing, which is a joint-venture between Air China and Lufthansa, says in a statement it has signed a contract to do 'C-checks' on eight 737-800s from Air India Charters.

It says this latest contract comes after it completed 'C-checks' on nine other 737-800s under an earlier agreement with the Indian carrier.

Air India is working with Boeing to develop its MRO capabilities and capacity but presently there is still a shortage of MRO capacity in India so many airlines there are still sending work overseas.
