From The Archives: Russians Admit Testing F-117 Lost In Yugoslavia

Russian officials admitted to Aviation Week that they were using remains from a U.S. Air Force F-117 shot down during the 1999 Kosovo campaign to improve the ability of their air defense systems to detect and kill stealth aircraft.

Fulghum and Robert Wall is published on page 80, in the Oct. 8, 2001, edition of the magazine, noted that only sections of the F-117 had survived intact, hampering the Russians’ goal of determining how radar energy was dissipated over the entire aircraft.
