DUBAI—Etihad Engineering announced two developments at the Dubai Airshow related to reducing its carbon footprint and growing its training capability.

The company signed an agreement Nov. 15 with DHL for the logistics specialist’s GoGreen Plus service, which helps companies reduce carbon emissions related to their shipments by using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Etihad Engineering says it is one of the first MRO providers to sign up for the service as part of its sustainability initiatives.

Daniel Hoffmann, CEO of Etihad Engineering, says the move is part of its aim to align with the UAE’s net zero vision for sustainable development. “As an ISO 14001 certified organization, we at Etihad Engineering adhere to international environmental standards and are continuously exploring ways to conserve energy, reduce emissions and protect our environment,” he says.

As part of the service, Etihad Engineering will receive a quarterly progress report from DHL certifying the total emission reductions achieved through use of SAF based on independent SGS audits. Etihad has declined to comment on specific reduction metrics it is targeting.

During the airshow, Etihad Engineering also announced a new technical training facility at its Abu Dhabi International Airport facilities. The more than 17,000 ft.² facility has 17 classrooms and four distance learning rooms so students can train remotely. Students will also get direct access to Etihad’s hangars for hands-on training with aircraft.

“Etihad Engineering’s MRO capabilities and business are growing exponentially, and we will match the pace of growth with the launch of our state-of-the-art technical training facility,” says Adrian Guirey, senior manager of Etihad Engineering Technical Training. “The new facility significantly expands our current training capability and capacity to serve our own colleagues as well as third-party customers.”

Etihad says the new facility will let it add approximately 400 more courses per year and deliver training to 6,000 more trainees annually.
