An interesting discussion regarding the 3rd coming of hypersonics but surprised to hear nothing about REL's SABRE technology which would enable Mach 0 to Mach 6 with a single engine concept (and on to orbital velocity) without the tricky airframe/engine integration aspects of scramjets. Another advantage should be that the engine can be basically proven via ground testing through most of its cycle. Are you guys not convinced ?

Scott, actually the U.S. Military is covering all bets. DARPA has funded a new high-temperature airflow test facility, located in Colorado. Under the DARPA program, Reaction Engines has began testing the precooler test article called HTX. The precooler heat exchanger is a key component of the company’s revolutionary SABRE air-breathing rocket engine.

If it proves workable I am pretty sure the technology will be incorporated into any hyper sonic test vehicles.
