ATR traces its roots back to the early 1980s and has far exceeded its original sales expectations. It is now upgrading the ATR 42 and ATR 72 with improved systems and enhancing their performance. A clean-sheet design replacement, however, seems unlikely in the medium term. And with the strongest outlook in the regional aircraft market, the turboprops may be expected to account for a major influx of work for MRO providers over the coming years—if not decades.
