Sponsored by Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport

Rolling out the red carpet for customers and the community is part of what we do as a full-service FBO at the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport.

And why shouldn’t it be?

We’re proud to be part of an award-winning community, a thriving business community, nationally recognized parks and an historic downtown, and excellent schools.

For our crew at the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport (LXT), this means demonstrating excellent customer service and professionalism and informing aviators about Lee’s Summit’s amenities and the qualities that make our airport and our community stand out as a distinctive destination.

A part of our airport’s uniqueness is our humble roots dating back more than 40 years.

That’s when the City purchased the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport in September 1977. This acquisition was just seven years after the airport was opened in September 1970 by Lee’s Summit resident Bill McComas.

As is customary in our community, we celebrate our heritage while looking toward the future. And the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport’s future looks bright, with major improvements on the horizon.

Visionary leaders had the foresight years ago to recognize the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport could be a vital part of attracting and retaining businesses to not only the Lee’s Summit community, but the entire region.

Their vision is finally becoming a reality when, in fall 2017, runway improvements will thrust the Airport into a new class of general aviation reliever airports. Improvements include:

  • 5,500 ft. grooved concrete runway
  • 4,000 ft. crosswind runway
  • Nine inches of pavement thickness
  • 60,000 lb. aircraft capacity
  • Improved airfield lighting
  • Jetgo ground power unit (GPU)
  • 40,000 sq. ft. heated hangar space available now for rent for your business and corporate aircraft and/or itinerant stays

These improvements underway will provide business and corporate aircraft users in the region better access to the southeastern Jackson County area, the metropolitan Kansas City area, and beyond. In addition, excellent interstate highway access allows corporate customers to quickly travel to their nearby businesses and leisure travelers to attend nearby sporting events such as Royals and Chiefs games.

With these improvements, the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport looks forward to continuing its fine tradition of supporting general aviation aircraft. Approximately 50,000 take-offs and landings occur annually, which is the equivalent of about 137 operations daily, with the majority of these operations being business-related flights bringing marketing, professional, technical, service and support staffers to the area. And those numbers are expected to increase when improvements are complete this fall.

In addition to hosting aircraft from across the country arriving daily, Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport holds an annual Open House, typically in June. The event is an opportunity for residents and visitors to see everything the airport has to offer its customers and the community. Admission is free to this family-friendly event that offers fun and flight with historical aircraft displays, aviation-related vendors, helicopter rides and much more. It’s our way of connecting with the community and introducing a whole new generation to the joys of aviation.

These are just a few of the reasons to stop by 2751 NE Douglas St., Lee’s Summit, Mo. — to meet the staff, take a tour, and see for yourself all that the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport has to offer!
