The Russian navy is close to receiving its first nuclear-powered submarine in 17 years. In April, the Sevmash State Nuclear Shipbuilding Center launched the first Borei-class submarine, the Yuri Dolgoruky. This fourth-generation Project 935 missile submarine, on which construction began in late 1996, reportedly has a top speed of 26 kt. It will remain at Sevmash until sea trials this summer.
