Investment house JP Morgan puts Delta's odds of filing for Chapter 11 protection at about 49% but predicts they may edge upward due to high fuel prices and the "more combative-than-expected tone from the pilots." As part of its debt restructuring, Delta will likely "seek to draw a line in the sand and end future defined benefit contributions while agreeing to maintain the current plan as vested in lieu of an outright rejection," says analyst Mark Streeter.
