Chile’s Constitutional Court has deferred until Aug. 31 a decision on whether it will hear a claim by Chilean domestic carrier PAL Airlines against LAN Airlines’ proposed merger with Brazil’s Grupo TAM. If the court, which was scheduled to issue its decision Aug. 24, proceeds with the case, it could delay the merger beyond the early 2012 date currently planned by the airlines, although TAM just two weeks ago suggested the case will not affect its schedule (Aviation Daily, Aug. 12).
