Avia Plans Largest Ukrainian MRO Facility

Plans are afoot to build up to eight hangars for aircraft maintenance at Kharkiv International Airport.

Avia Solutions Group, the parent company of FL Technics, will invest €24 million ($27.7 million) into a new repair station in the Ukraine which it says will be the country’s largest maintenance facility.

The new project in Kharkiv, located in northeast Ukraine, will include eight hangars and additional warehouses and workshops, with a total area of 280,000 ft.2 It will target MRO work on narrowbody aircraft initially through FL Technics at the city’s airport, focusing specifically on Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft.

The management company of the airport, where the hangars will be located, said at the end of September that it will lead to the creation of about 1,500 new jobs. 

Volodymyr Vasylchenko, CEO of the airport management company New Systems AM of DCH Group, confirmed at a presentation of the project that once built, the Kharkiv site will be the country’s largest MRO facility. 

Speaking at the same event, FL Technics CEO Zilvinas Lapinskas said that in addition to facilities at its Lithuania home base, the UK and China, it is also looking to launch new projects in Indonesia and the Dominican Republic.

“Kharkiv is now next in line,” he says. “It is the most beneficial location for us—we will be able to service more companies.”
