Etihad reduced its order for Airbus A350-1000s by six aircraft. Airbus lists 19 firm orders for the type from Etihad, but the airline originally had ordered 25. The Abu Dhabi-based carrier stated that the 25 options and purchase rights it holds in addition to the firm order will remain in place and will “no doubt play a crucial role in the airline’s growth.” Etihad could not immediately be reached for further comment.

Emirates and Qatar Airways have been publicly criticizing Airbus for the decision to revamp and delay the A350-1000, which is now due for first delivery in 2017, around two years later than previously anticipated. Etihad has not been as vocal publicly and it is unclear if its decision was linked to the delay. The carrier has not placed orders for any other A350 variants. It is awaiting delivery of 10 A380s, four more A330-200s and 19 A320s.
