The tanker will fly one mission a day starting on 3 March to refuel French air force Rafale, Mirage 2000 and Mirage F1 combat aircraft. Before it was deployed, the MRTT had to be certified to refuel French aircraft as it had previously only done so for Luftwaffe Tornadoes and Eurofighters.

The MRTT took off from Cologne-Wahn air base with 25 personnel on 2 March. It joined three C-160D transport aircraft already deployed to Dakar to support the African-led International Support Mission in Mali (AFISMA).
