French Air Force Checks Out Tablets


The French air force is experimenting with tablets to see what their utility in a military environment might be.

A trial phase is being undertaken by CEMA, the air force’s experiment center, and should wrap up in the fall.

Various applications are being looked at, including the use of tablets as electronic flight bags, as is already unfolding in the civil aviation world, to curtail the use of paper.

But the service also is exploring whether the devices can replace small computers used by helicopter and fighter units.
