Belgium, Spain Take Over Baltic Air Policing

Spanish Eurofighter Typhoons and Belgian F-16s took over NATO's Baltic Air Policing Mission for the first four months of 2016 from Germany and Hungary Jan. 7.

Four Spanish Eurofighter Typhoons have been deployed to Šiauliai, Lithuania, and four Belgian F-16s to Ämari, Estonia, relieving four Hungarian Gripens and five German Eurofighter Typhoons, respectively, which have been conducting the mission since September.

Led by Spain, it is the 40th rotation of the Baltic Air Policing mission since the first rotation by Belgian F-16s began on 30 March 2004.
