After Russia’s invasion of Crimea a year ago, U.S. policymakers directed the U.S. Air Force to begin seeking alternatives to the Russian-made RD-180 engine that powers Atlas V rockets launching U.S. satellites into space. Now the Air Force is in the midst of finding that alternative.
