Following the shootdown of a U.S. Navy RQ-4A unmanned surveillance aircraft by Iran, the FAA issued a notice to airmen (Notam) on June 20 that prohibits U.S.-registered aircraft from operating over the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
