ASTM Standard To Address Design Loads, Conditions Of Small Aircraft

A new ASTM International standard, soon to be published as F3116, addresses airworthiness requirements for design loads and conditions of small aircraft. The goals help increase safety, lower certification costs and support innovation, said ASTM, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials. The standard will help with the design of safe, structurally sound fixed-wing aircraft, said Richard Manwell, Textron Aviation senior engineering specialist in aerosciences, ASTM member and task group chairman.

Gulfstream G650/G650ER

The current flagship of the Gulfstream family of private jets is the G650, a twin engine jet with seating capacity of up to 18 passengers. The airplane is powered by two Rolls-Royce BR725 A1 engines, each capable of delivering 16,900 lb. thrust. The maximum range is 7,000 nm at long range cruise at Mach 0.85. The G650 is rated for a top speed of Mach 0.925 and is certified up to a maximum altitude of 51,000 ft. The Maximum Takeoff Weight (MTOW) for the G650 is 99,600 lb.

Aero Precision, Integrated Logistics Form Joint Venture

Aero Precision Industries, a subsidiary of Greenwich AeroGroup, has signed a joint venture agreement with Integrated Logistics Co., a subsidiary of Saudi Aerospace Co., to logistically support the Audi Arabian military and civil aviation industry in the Gulf Cooperation Council. The joint venture will operate under the name Aero Precision Industries Saudi Arabia, with headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in a facility under construction in North Riyadh.

VistaJet Begins Point-to-Point Service In China

VistaJet, founded in 2004, has begun point-to-point service within China with the arrival of its first Chinese registered aircraft, a Bombardier Challenger 850. A second Chinese-registered Challenger 850 will arrive later this year. Service is scheduled to begin in July through a licensed air carrier. VistaJet is the first aviation company to register large-cabin aircraft for operation in China, the company said.

Eclipse 550 Now Includes Warranty And Maintenance Program

The Eclipse 550 aircraft will now come standard with a five year aircraft warranty and a five-year Eclipse Advantage maintenance program. The program covers the cost of all scheduled maintenance inspections on an Eclipse jet for the first five years or 1,000 flight hours. That includes all standard labor and parts costs for required scheduled inspections, including the 300-hr., 24-month inspection, the 1,200-hr., 48-month inspection and lesser inspections.

Carson Helicopter Ex-Vice President, Director of Maintenance, Sentenced

A former Carson Helicopter vice president, Steven Metheny, was sentenced in U.S. District Court, Medord, Oregon, to more than 12 years in prison for making false statements and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. Forest Service related to helicopter services for firefighting operations, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. Levi Phillips, former Carson director of maintenance, was sentenced to two years in prison on conspiracy charges. The two had pleaded guilty, the DOT said.

Honeywell has appointed Jet Aviation Basel to establish an auxiliary power units overhaul facility in the region of Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) by year’s end. Jet Aviation Basel, based in Basel, Switzerland, will be authorized to disassemble, clean, overhaul and modify Honeywell’s APU units for the 36-100/150 family of products.

Marty Hiller, owner and partner of Marathon Jet Center in Marathon, Florida, was named vice chairman of the board. New board members include Scott Owens, senior vice president of McClellan Jet Services in McClellan, California; and Jeff Ross, president and CEO of Ross Aviation in Denver.
