The award to Flying Colours of its China Civil Aviation Regulations 145 Maintenance Organization Certificate allows it to work on Chinese-registered aircraft in Canada.
One would be right in thinking there are very few Chinese-registered aircraft in Canada, but Flying Colours has completed no fewer than 15Challenger 850s for Chinese customers since August 2008, and has been contracted to outfit and finish seven Bombardier with VIP+ airline interiors for another customer there.
The new certificate has already been put to use: Flying Colours is working on its first B-registered aircraft, a Challenger 604, which flew to Canada for interior refurbishment and modifications. A second will follow soon after, “and we’ve quoted on several other projects,” says Eric Gillespie, executive VP for sales and marketing.
Aircraft delivered to China by Flying Colours typically arrive at the MRO’s center in Peterborough, near Toronto, under U.S. or Canadian registration, taking up B-markings on completion and acceptance onto the Chinese register. Now Flying Colours is licensed to support them. “We have received an increased amount of requests from our Chinese client base as many of the customers for whom we’ve already completed aircraft now want us to work on other aircraft they own,” adds executive VP Sean Gillespie.
Flying Colours also provides mobile maintenance work in China, and the new approval will support that growing part of its business activity.
