Jakarta-based MRO provider GMF AeroAsia has signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus to become the European airframer’s approved maintenance training provider in Indonesia.

Airbus says the 10-year strategic partnership agreement “is aimed at developing the maintenance training capabilities locally in Indonesia, based on respective strengths and assets of GMF and Airbus.”

GMF President Director Richard Budihadianto in April told Aviation Week that he hoped to sign this agreement with Airbus in June. He said the deal is significant because it means that GMF is Airbus’s first maintenance training center outside of France.

Airbus’s deal, which still needs to be finalized, also helps the manufacturer improve its competitive position in Indonesia, a market traditionally dominated by Boeing.
