AAR, fresh off a solid fiscal year of commercial aviation business growth, announced two new deals supporting its view that there’s more to come.
The company inked a five-yearERJ 145XR landing gear overhaul services deal with ExpressJet and a “multi-year” deal to provide wheels and brakes support for FlyBe’s .
The ExpressJet contract covers the airline’s 104 extended range ERJ 145s. Overhaul work will be done at AAR’s dedicated landing gear facility in Miami, the company says.
The FlyBe deal includes stocking parts in the region to support the carrier. The airline has parts on hand through a related sale/leaseback agreement, and AAR says it is stocking more “high demand” Q400 wheels and brakes inventory at its warehouse near Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
FlyBe has 45 Q400s, including four flying on contract with. It recently sold two to Nigeria’s Aero, and has two more on the market. The sales are part of the carrier’s efforts to “opportunistically” match capacity to demand, it explains in its 2012-13 annual report published in June.
AAR’s commercial sales increased 5% in its 2013 fiscal year ended June 30. Discussing the company’s results and near-term outlook on an earnings call, CEO David Storch cited the spares market as a likely growth area in the second half of calendar year 2013.
