The FAA is not the only authority struggling to prevent, or contain, an explosion in unregulated civil unmanned-aircraft use. Canada's CTVNews reports that Transport Canada and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are working to identify the operator of a UAV that flew close to an aircraft approaching Vancouver International Airpport and posted the video on YouTube.
It is hard to tell how close the UAV was to the airliner, and how much is camera zoom, but the unmanned aircraft was clearly being flown where it should not have been. This is not the first instance of UAVs being seen in the vicinity of airliners on the approach to airports, and it will not be the last. Even if regulations are eventually put in place, there will always be idiots.
