Piper is celebrating it 75th anniversary of the Piper Cub during this week’s Experimental Aircraft Association 2012 Airventure in Oshkosh, Wis., and has a near record-breaking amount on hand. Some 75 Cubs arrived together on Sunday, and at last count the total number on the field is approaching 125. But that’s not a record, says EAA’s Dick Knapinski. The record is 150.
EAA President Rod Hightower, meanwhile, is encouraged that all early indicators are pointing to an uptick in the show this year. Advance purchases are up over 3% and the campground, he says is “fuller than I’ve seen in a lot of years.”
EAA is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the fly-in this year.
