Parts supply, reliability, no fault found, lack of OEM support for mature airframes and the debate about whether the indsutry should be share component data to better support demand forecasting are hot topics here at MRO Europe.
Andy Johnson, director of engineering for FLybe Europe, was very vocal about NFFs showing up in parts pools. "Why should I pay $500,00" being penalized for NFF, which he says accounts for 20% of his parts removals.
He challenged the audience: how many operators REALLY know what their NFF rate is? One European airline said he guessed it was 50%, but he didn't know.
Is all the blame on parts suppliers and OEMs? No. Is test equipment working as well as it should? Do line maintenance technicians pull components to enable the aircraft dispatch?
How should the industry work better to address these issues?
Especially for mature platforms, it sounds like airlines are not always getting the support they want.
