One of Boeing's best sellers, the 737-700 is still in production, albeit with numbers now overshadowed by the larger -800 and -900 models.
According to Aviation Week Intelligence Network's Fleet database, 1,093 Boeing 737-700s have been manufactured to date, and only 25 have been permanently withdrawn. Remarkably only three have been lost to accidents.
Of the remaining 22 retired for commercial reasons, many have ended their days at Kemble in southwest England, where Air Salvage International (ASI) are based. Currently two 737-700s are in ASIs care, awaiting the "final cut".
MSN 29091 (pictured below) was rolled out of Boeing's Renton factory in February 1999, and after a few years in Norway with Braathens, spent the next 10 years in China. With almost 30,000 cycles under its belt, it is likely the lessor felt there was money to be made selling the aircraft for part-out than in future lease deals.
