Over on our Things With Wings blog, Graham Warwick asks: "how many bin bags to empty an A340?" Nope, it has nothing to do with removing rubbish.
Lufthansa spent seven hours stripping everything that's not bolted down on an A340 to see how many catalogue items can be eliminated from the cabin, cockpit and cargo hold - as much as 10%. The airline estimates that by doing this, it could reduce an aircraft's fuel costs by almost $4 million per year.
Lufthansa has 400 fuel-saving projects underway, and this is just one of them. Click here to find out just how many bin bags it does take to empty an A340, and what other fuel-saving projects Lufthansa is working on.
