Delta CEO Richard Anderson threw out some interesting figures in today's keynote at MRO Americas in Atlanta, including the fact that the airline keeps a consistent 92% on-time rate and a completion rate of 99.6% on its mainline with a pool of spare engines totaling just 5% of the on-wing fleet. He credited Delta Tech Ops's engine overhaul prowess for keeping the carrier's operation both lean and efficient.
In a subsequent session, Delta Manager, Engine Demand Planning Gino Miraglia provided some context of Delta's engine fleet. The carrier currently has 1,472 engines on-wing, putting the spares pool--which includes both ready-to-use units and engines undergoing repair--at around 74.
The carrier's engine fleet includes 16 models made by four OEMs; Tech Ops services eight of the models in-house, and eight are sent out.
Delta's biggest engine fleets? Pratt & Whitney PW2000s (330 in service), CFM56-5As (248), and JT9D-219 (234).
