Cessna is adding another model to build in China: the Citation XLS+ “super” light jet. The XLS, to be jointly produced with Avic subsidiary Caiga, will join Cessna’s Skycatcher, Caravan, Sovereign and Latitude that are either currently being produced in China or in the works to be produced there.
Cessna announced the latest agreement during last week’s Airshow China in Zhuahi, where the XLS+ will be produced. Delivery of the first aircraft is expected in the next 12-18 months, Aviation Week’s Bradley Perrett reports, adding that Cessnas built in China will only be destined for customers in the region.
While Cessna expands its assembly capabilities in China, Dassault and Gulfstream are continuing to build up their infrastructure in the Asia Pacific region.
Dassault is establishing a wholly owned subsidiary, Dassault Falcon Business Services (Beijing) Co. Ltd., in Beijing to provide support services to customers in the region.
The new subsidiary will establish a customer service headquarters in Beijing, with operations scheduled for early next year. Led by Kathy Liu, director of customer service for Asia, the office will handle spare parts, warranty and FalconCare claims, and coordinate activities of four technical representatives based in Greater China.
Gulfstream, meanwhile, is adding a satellite flight department in Hong Kong. The flight department is in addition to the company’s new joint service center in Beijing that is being established, along with a nearby parts warehouse. The satellite office will house five pilots – three large-cabin demonstration pilots, one mid-cabin demonstration pilot and a chief pilot type-rated in both large- and mid-cabin aircraft. The department will facilitate entry-into-service for Gulfstream aircraft not only in China, but throughout the Asia Pacific region.
Piaggio, meanwhile, is gaining a foothold in Chinese market, delivering its first Avanti II, S/N 1228 to a Chinese customer. The aircraft will be operated by Free Sky Aviation, and China expects to deliver a second to the operator next month.
