EASA issued an airworthiness directive today (2013-0024) for Airbus A380 operators due to corrosion found on belly fairing supports during scheduled maintenance. Investigations have revealed that the corrosion was caused by "a lack of connection between drainage lines and belly fairing funnels," says the AD, which is effective on Feb. 21.
Inspection information is found in an Airbus service bulletin (A380-53-8056) that the manufacturer issued on Dec. 11, 2012.
Airbus has improved corrosion protection in this area during production, and EASA says the manufacturer also is developing a service bulletin (A380-53-8057) to modify the affected area for in-service aircraft.
This AD originally was issued as a proposed AD on Jan. 18.
