With the recent delivery of the 19th A330-200F to Colombian operator Tampa Cargo, a look at the A330-200F backlog shows that 30 units remain to be delivered. However, a closer look shows that 17 of those units may not be delivered, or at least not delivered as freighters, which puts the theoretical backlog closer to 13.
Intrepid Aviation ordered 20 A330-200Fs in 2007, but none have been delivered and many positions have been switched to the A330-200 and A330-300 passenger variants due to a healthier demand for those types. Intrepid now has nine A330-200Fs left on order. If this trend continues, it's entirely possible Intrepid will take delivery of few or even none of the A330s in freighter form. But in the end, Airbus is probably not terribly concerned with what variant of A330 a customer buys - after all, revenue is revenue.
Up next is OH-Avion LLC which has eight A330-200Fs on order. The order was originally placed in 2007 by Avion Aircraft Trading with four of the aircraft destined for Icelandair. That deal never materialized and new end users for the aircraft, if any, have yet to be announced.
This leaves 13 A330-200Fs left to be delivered: BOC Aviation/Qatar Airways (1), Avianca/Tampa Cargo (2), Etihad Airways (2), Synergy Aerospace (3), MNG (3) and THY (2). Based on Airbus' 2012 production rate for the A330-200F, all orders are expected to be fulfilled by 2014 if more orders are not secured. While Airbus would certainly like a bigger piece of the widebody freighter pie and secure more orders, however, the A330 production line will stay busy with the continued demand for passenger variants.
