Jerry DeMuro has been appointed the next president and CEO of BAE Systems Inc., following the retirement of Linda Hudson.

DeMuro, a former executive with General Dynamics, will take over on Feb. 1, the company announced on Jan. 7, succeeding Hudson, who announced she would step down in August. DeMuro will be appointed as an executive director of BAE Systems plc in the U.K. and will serve on the company’s executive committee as well as on the board of the U.S. side of the company.

He will report to Ian King, chief executive of BAE Systems plc, and Michael Chertoff, chairman of the board for BAE Systems Inc. DeMuro led General Dynamics’ Information Systems and Technology from October 2003 to March 2013. He also spent time at the U.S. Defense Department as an acquisition official.

Hudson, who has run BAE Systems’ U.S. operation since 2009, will be on the board of BAE Systems Inc. as an outside director until April 2015, but will remain as an advisor to the company until the end of May as part of DeMuro’s transition period.
