AAR has expanded inventory at its European distribution center for Unison aerospace components, located at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

The new inventory at the hub is managed by AAR’s Allen asset management division and includes turbine ignition systems, engine-dedicated alternators, sensors, switches and wiring harnesses. Unison specializes in gas turbine structural components plus electrical and mechanical systems for engines, airframes and industrial markets.

Unison selected AAR as its exclusive distributor of its full line of electrical components, sensors and systems in June 2011, committing to an agreement valued at more than $600 million over 10 years. According to AAR’s 2011 annual report, a quarter of its $1.78 billion total sales in fiscal 2011 came from its supply chain segment, which includes the Schiphol distribution hub.

AAR also is gaining traction in the air cargo market with its newly acquired container supplier Nordisk Aviation and freight handling system specialist Telair International. AAR completed the acquisition of both companies in December. Nordisk announced that DHL has ordered more than €1 million ($1.32 million) of large main deck containers, which the company will deliver to DHL facilities in the U.S., Europe and Asia in the first quarter.

This price point of €1 million is above-average for this type of shipment, says Hans van Rooijen, Nordisk Aviation Products area sales manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Rooijen says that DHL is a regular customer and that the containers reflect DHL’s summer requirements for air cargo packaging.
