US Airways says the unexpected magnitude and duration of a Feb. 16 winter storm in Charlotte, N.C., contributed to the 34 tarmac delays at Charlotte Douglas International Airport that are now the subject of a U.S. Transportation Department (DOT) investigation. “The weather was really awful,” says the spokeswoman, who lives in Charlotte and was there that day. “Snow was coming down hard and fast, and there was thunder as well, contributing to extremely dangerous conditions on the ramp.” ...
