FlyBe UK has tapped Monarch Aircraft Engineering Limited (MAEL) for line and light maintenance support of its Bombardier Q400s and Embraer 175 and 195 regional jets (ERJs), the companies report.

MAEL will provide line maintenance at Birmingham, Manchester, London Gatwick and East Midlands airports. The deal, which expands upon an existing relationship that includes ERJ line maintenance at Spain’s Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, also includes light hangar maintenance and logistics support at Birmingham and Manchester.

MAEL currently has extensive base maintenance capabilities at Manchester and London Luton. Bringing light hangar work to Birmingham adds to MAEL’s previously announced plans to open a 110,000-sq. ft. hangar at the airport in late 2013. The new facility is expected to create 150 jobs right away and could grow to 300 as MAEL adds work.

Earlier this year, MAEL opened a revamped technical training facility at London Luton. The center offers training for both MAEL employees as well as third-party customers.
