Bringing older transport aircraft ¬– and especially –into the modern and even Next-Gen world is a major focus for Esterline CMC Electronics.
The Canadian company is here (Booth T87, Canadian Pavilion) at the Singapore Airshow to demonstrate its Cockpit 9000 CNS/ATM (Communication, Navigation Surveillance/Air Traffic Management) upgrade for legacy C-130 and other transport aircraft.
And it just received Canadian certification for upgrading the FMS and cockpit functionality inA310/300 aircraft.
This is also the first air show where CMC will be displaying its new PilotView crew information system, providing integrated cockpit connectivity via an advanced aircraft information server in association with a 12.1-in Class 2 electronic flight bag (EFB). The system offers versatile aircraft network connectivity, secure file storage and aircraft interface capabilities. The new-generation EFB features an LED-backlit display with multitouch support, and delivers high-end processing capabilities for applications based on its Intel Core i7 processor.
The company’s latest generation CMA-9000 flight management system (FMS) combines with Esterline CMC’s high-integrity GPS landing system to provide a comprehensive solution for flight phases from departure to precision approach. It is in full compliance with international CNS/ATM navigational mandates and growth provisions.
Cockpit 9000 extends a 20- to 40-year-old aircraft’s service life by another 30 years, at a fraction of the cost of a new aircraft, says Jean-Michel Comtois, vice president for sales, government and public affairs.
With Cockpit 9000, maintenance costs are reduced and mission capabilities enhanced. CMC’s system integration experience includes C-130 cockpit upgrades for more than 27 aircraft with 10 international customers, including air forces in Austria, Brazil, Chile, Dubai, the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia.
“We’re hoping to add a few more this year,” says Comtois. He sees prospects in Asia-Pacific, including Singapore, and is in “very close” discussions with Malaysia.
