China’s total business travel spending should increase 15.1% this year to $226 billion, and 16.9% in 2014, or more than twice the rate of the U.S., according to the Global Business Travel Association. China’s business travel spending grew an average of 15.5% annually from 2000 to 2012, the association said April 15. “We are confident that stronger domestic demand will spur renewed growth in business travel spending,” said GBTA Asia Vice President Operations Welf Ebeling. “At the forecasted growth rates, China is likely to become the largest business travel market in the world as early as 2015.”
